I’ve had a week away and in the meantime the Magic Garden has turned autumnal but with the addition of some small asters to join the Michaelmas Daisies the blooms continue to brighten the gloom. Ben I think is glad to have me home & investigated the Magic Garden cautiously..
Sunday
Grey chilly day but at least it was dry! I planted out some autumn bedding and enjoyed the amount of colour still in the Magic Garden
Saturday
A wee bit of time to enjoy the Magic Garden - grey skies but not the rain threatened. The birds are enjoying the feeders & Ben watching them.
Friday
After a grey start to the day it turned a bit damp & then foggy so I appreciated more the amount of colour left in the Magic Garden & the flash of yellow from the goldfinch youngster & its parent & the occasional bloom.
Indian Summer
We seem to be having a bit of an Indian Summer with glorious sunshine all day albeit with a chill to the air. The Magic Garden still has plenty of colour in it and the bees & others are still busy. I’m cropping tomatoes & courgettes which feels good for mid-September. Ben has enjoyed a day in the sun.
Monday
The autumnal feel continues with mizzle this morning and the nights drawing in. The hellebore under the apple tree is confused though and in full bloom and the Bramley apple tree is also confused with flowers as well as apples on its branches.
Sunday
It’s been a foggy wet weekend here but I’ve still got bits & pieces done in the Magic Garden including planting out a new crocosmia Carmine, a Japanese anemone & a rudbeckia. I am really pleased with how the Magic Garden looks even in the gloom.
Wednesday
The nights are already drawing in as we’ve arrived in September. This is the season of Michaelmas daisies although Michaelmas isn’t until the end of the month. I love these purple daisies and have them planted in the north quarter of the Magic patch. Traditionally St Michael was the archangel to stop the incursion of the Devil. For some reason the Devil was thought to come from the North so churches at the north end of towns were traditionally dedicated to St Michael.
Monday
I was home promptly which gave me chance to watch the birds in the Magic Garden
Sunday
Autumnal feel to the day and some showers to remind us its September. I have a second flush of ‘wild’ flowers in the Magic Garden brightening around the pond as well as the foxgloves in shady bits of the rest. The number of birds in the garden have been steadily increasing & a lot are juveniles including the goldfinches. I'm hoping that they will stay around even if they are consuming vast amounts of feed.
Saturday
Today was beautiful if not very warm.
Friday
It’s been a mainly dry week so I have been able to sit out with the cat in the Magic Garden each evening enjoying the mix of blooms around me and their visitors. I enjoyed the last cauliflower of the summer as cauliflower cheese & have picked both blackberries and bramley apples to enjoy as a crumble this weekend
Bank Holiday Monday
It continues to feel like autumn has set in already. I did a bit of tidying up, pruning & lots of enjoying in the Magic Garden.I have taken some overall photos to show how the Magic Garden looks from all angles
Saturday
Another week nearly gone. It’s surprisingly windy again but the Magic Garden is looking good. The sweet peas are still doing well. The fuchsias that have all been bought as clearance plants are all doing well.
Sunday
Another nice day in the Magic Garden - less sunny & more windy but perfect for gardening. I am very pleased with how its looking at the moment.
Saturday
I spent a large chunk of today in the Magic Garden with lots of clearing of ‘weeds’ and tidying up. I planted out new lavender plants along edges and tidied the paths. I also picked more sweet peas to hopefully keep them coming and decided to cut more flowers for the house.
Tuesday
Today was a day of thunderstorms. Ben seemed to enjoy them more than me! I did get some gardening done and I also pressed some flowers for use later in the year to decorate candles
Sunday
It’s been a beautiful day again today. I spent much of it outdoors and in the Magic Garden.
Friday
I’ve had a busy week at work and am glad to be home in the Magic Garden this evening. It’s surprisingly windy for the middle of August so I have had to batten down the tomato house and the cold frame. The crocosmia are looking lovely and the feel of late summer is palpable with the bramley apples & blackberries giving promise of blackberry and apple crumble.
Monday
The vegetable containers have been doing really well this year with continuous production of curly kale, Calvero Nero, broad beans & cauliflower. The courgettes have just started being productive and I’ve got both tomatoes and cucumbers
